Elthorne Park High School in Ealing is a highly popular, successful 11-19 community comprehensive mixed school. The school comprises educational facilities, indoor and outdoor sports facilities with off-street car parking spaces located near the main school entrance.
To accommodate the expansion of an Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP) places at school, Ealing Council commissioned Francis Construction to deliver a three classroom stand alone low carbon inspiring and flexible teaching space.
The new build two storey teaching block features steel frame with Metsec and enhanced the school street elevations via its modern design comprising of a mixture of render, masonry and powder coated sunshading.
To meet the needs for the school teaching and operations, our team delivered a three classroom block spread over two floors including office space, toilets and platform lift along with associated service cupboards and plantroom.
To prevent overlooking issues into the existing adjacent houses, deep sun shading was introduced.
All works were delivered in a fully operational building and within busy residential neighbourhood. Working on a very restrictive site, with the entrance adjacent to the main school gates and with park access to the front of site, we took additional precautions to traffic management and all deliveries were dealt with consideration to the local community.
This project incorporates sustainability elements and features a green roof, which replaces the planted areas covered by the footprint of the building. We worked with the parks department to ensure that all trees that had to be felled during the works, were chopped into logs and stacked in the adjacent woods to form bug houses. Seven new trees were planted to replace those removed.
