This project comprised of the construction of a new neighbourhood resource centre for the London Borough of Harrow. Replacing out-dated facilities on an existing site. Byron Park is part of the Borough’s Leisure Complex area and provides an easily accessible community facility which is located on special bus routes.
The building, constructed on piled foundations, has a traditional brick/block cavity wall construction, with some parts of the design incorporating steel beams. The upper floor is constructed on a steel frame with pre-cast concrete plank floors. Roof trusses are in engineered timber and the roof covered in insulated metal sheeting, which has high levels of insulation.
Extensive parking areas have been formed with landscaped garden areas. Internally the building is laid out with consulting rooms, treatment rooms, a nursery, and additional space facilities including a community hall with meeting rooms for community groups.
All services have been designed to provide the highest levels of sustainability and energy saving, in order to complement the well-insulated walls and glazing. Sun-shading is provided to the main elevations.
The building has provided much needed medical and community health facilities for Harrow and the surrounding area.
