Services:

New build extension to existing primary school.

Client:

Ealing Borough Council

Havelock Primary School is a large mainstream primary school which includes nursery facilities, providing amenities for a small number of pupils who have learning difficulties. This scheme consists of the provision of additional teaching and classroom accommodation in the form of a detached single storey building.

Initial enabling works included site clearance, excavations, formation and site preparation. The construction phase consisted of the formation of the new building, creating three classrooms, a kitchen/dining room, a sensory room, and a calm room, together with an office area, shower room and WCs, circulation areas and external canopies.

Amenities included M&E services, data/communication installation, drainage works and the associated internal and external finishes

Close proximity to the wider community

Built during the late 1970s, the school is situated within the ward of Norwood Green in West London and forms part of the London Borough of Ealing.

The local area is mainly residential with a small supermarket and garage. The school is adjacent to key community buildings and schools: the Havelock Family Centre/Aleka House, Sybil Elgar School (a specialist school for children with learning difficulties) Dairy Meadows Primary School and the Swift Road Outdoor Sports Centre. In addition, the site was in close proximity to Martin House, a care home providing residential and nursing dementia care.

As traffic congestion in the immediate vicinity is common during peak periods we carefully managed construction traffic by limiting delivery times and the number of vehicles accessing the site. Communication between our team, the school and the wider community was key to the success of this project. Our Project Manager was a key point of contact if the community had any concerns, any issues were dealt with efficiently and effectively.

The project received commendation from Ealing Civic Society Annual Awards 2023.
