A local authority housing development adjacent to the Slyfield Estate in Guildford, the scheme comprises 12 new two storey semi-detached homes for Guildford Borough Council, using a traditional brick and block design.
To improve sustainability, PV panels were installed on the roof to generate renewable energy.
Prior to commencing construction, an existing asbestos-contaminated building was demolished and removed, with the subsequent remediation of the contaminated ground.
The project posed a number of challenges, with the site in proximity to an existing housing estate and local open waterways. Limited access and parking with narrow distributor roads was carefully managed via a robust traffic management plan, together with a great deal of effort in collaborating and communicating with the local residents.
Early engagement with the community proved to be very successful and we were able to maintain a very good relationship with local residents throughout the duration of the build. These efforts resulted in NHBC’s recognition of Site Manager’s performance above and beyond his normal duties, and the development was short-listed for the LABC Awards in 2018.
The scheme obtained Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 and Secured by Design.
