This project involved stripping out existing laboratories and carrying out a comprehensive refurbishment, with total replacement of all mechanical and electrical installations in a tightly controlled, phased manner. The works were carried out whilst surrounding labs and research projects continued uninterrupted.
A new laboratory was created in a former administration area, with the installation of new rooftop ventilation plant and the removal of existing precast wall panels. Once this was complete and the laboratory commissioned, phased works continued on the adjacent laboratory following a similar scope of improvements.
Daily liaison with the client and careful, delayed planning allowed the neighbouring research facilities within the building to continue working. Special shutdowns and out-of-hours works were arranged to enable new service connections and the commissioning of the new research equipment.
