Refurbishment & alterations

Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust

Following the successful delivery of ICU Phases 1 & 2, we have also completed Phase 3 (POD 2), which involved a complete refurbishment of 50% of the intensive care clinical spaces over two floors. With this section of ICU no longer meeting current HTM standards nor having suitable fire compartmentation in place, the project was established to resolve these issues as well as update the very old ward spaces.to provide a modern and excellent environment for staff and patient care.

The works started with asbestos removal and strip out of the space back to the building shell. We installed new M&E services, partitioning and fire compartmentation. This was followed by new flooring and ceilings including overhauling the windows and new blinds.

We have also removed an internal fire escape staircase and replaced it with and external bed lift for bedridden patients and an external fire escape staircase for mobile patients.

Working in very busy live and challenging intensive care unit across multiple zones, this project was delivered in phases, efficiently coordinated within the live ICU environment.
