Members of the Francis Construction team took part in the Paris Marathon which was held on Sunday the 17th of October. First, they made their way from the Francis office in Thatcham to Paris by bike! The team cycled 240 miles across three days from the Wednesday to the Friday before running the Marathon on the Sunday.

This challenge is all in aid of our chosen charity No5 who provide early intervention services to prevent the development of more serious problems caused by mental or physical ill health or other challenging circumstances, by providing support and advice (in particular, but not exclusively, by providing professional counselling services), to children and young people and their families regardless of difference, background or identity in the ‘RG’ postcode area, since 1971.

We chose No5 as our charity as over the last few years there has been a year-on-year increase in demand for their services. The total increase over the last four years has been 123%. They continue to grow and develop to meet the ever-changing needs of young people in our area. Last year alone they helped 1,818 young people and their families: 843 young people through their tailored, young person led counselling, 475 through mental health workshops delivered by their Young Ambassadors in schools, 100 through telephone and email support, and 400 parents!

‘We want to say the most massive congratulations and thank you to the fantastic team at Francis Construction who have taken on this momentous challenge. It is support like this that means No5 can continue to be here for the local young people who need us.

Support for young people’s mental health has never been more needed with over 1,000 young people and their families asking us for help in the last 12 months alone.

The amazing sum raised so far by the Francis Construction team will provide over 200 sessions of free, confidential counselling for local young people who are in need of support for their mental health’
Carly Newman, Operations and Relationships Manager at No5.
