Strict planning considerations prevented a new build design and so a clever refurbishment plan was put in place. Andrew Lacey Architects used a strong modern design and bold materials to give the project a very contemporary sustainable design, maximising the use of natural light.

The project consisted of reshaping the existing building core and adding two wings, one including a basement. Once the extensions were added and the re-roofing complete the construction of the new home really started to take shape. The sustainable technology, consisting of Solar Thermal roof panels, heat exchangers and the air source heat pump were added and commissioned. The highly efficient Vogrum windows, including five large folding-sliding units, allow unrestricted access to the patio, garden and pool areas.

High quality workmanship and the clever use of an insulated render system and cedar cladding complimented the style of the building. The Client, Architect and neighbours are all very pleased with the project which, although contemporary, adds to the streetscene in a traditional, prestigious area.
