The client needed additional accommodation at this popular school in Thorpe, Surrey, to provide classrooms, offices and an upper school hall. Planning approval in this sensitive village environment was difficult to achieve and the access to the site is diverted from outside the village centre. Before starting piling work to the basement storage area, extensive Archaeological investigations were carried out. The scheme consists of the colonnaded Coach House annex and the upper school hall and offices.
The buildings have steel frames with pre-cast concrete floors, the cavity walling is in hand made red facing bricks, roofs are covered in traditional tiles. Francis had to set up carefully segregated access routes to remove any risk to pupils and communications with the client were required on a daily basis. The scheme consists of sustainable M&E systems, lift, high quality joinery finishes and extensive landscaping/paving works.
